Rebuilding libraries one box at a time
On Novemer 8, 2013...
Eastern and Central Visayas islands in the Philippines were devastated by super typhoon Haiyan (local name, Yolanda). The strongest typhoon ever recorded to hit landfall in Tacloban City, with sustained 355 km/hr winds and 20-feet storm surge, flattened the landscape and left over 6000 casualties, thousands displaced and homeless.
While the world responded with much generosity, local politics and corruption have caused much delay in helping those affected find normalcy even today.
ReadWorld Foundation aims to support the rebuilding of library resources in schools and universities affected by disasters in the Philippines.
ReadWorld Foundation is a registered society in Alberta.
Individuals, families, groups, community organisations, and schools interested to support our mission with a multi-pronged approach – recycle books, save the environment, enhance literacy skills – are most welcome.
A school or organization in Letbridge will be paired with a school in the Philippines. Used books and extra school supplies collected or donated are sent directly to needy schools in the Philippines.
Shipping costs for one standard box is $100. We have no administrative cost.
ReadWorld Foundation, in partnership with other organisations, have done the following activities since 2014.
Local Lethbridge schools were paired with a public school in the Philippines in 2014. Many local schools and organisations continue to support us.
In November 2016, a successful fundraiser was held featuring Filipino cuisine.
Our volunteers have been holding an annual garage sale fundraiser since 2014.
If your school or organisation is interested to support our activities, please contact us through our Twitter and Facebook page.
